DCSF/Goldsmiths Anti-bullying Interventions Research Project (2008-2010)

Attention all schools! – primary, secondary, special and PRUs

http://www.goldsmiths.ac.uk/psychology/research/usfs.php

The questionnaire marks the beginning of a 2 year research project into the range and effectiveness of anti-bullying interventions recommended by Local Authorities and used in schools in England. The findings should be highly informative to schools and any person working in anti-bullying or for the wellbeing of children and young people.

Brinkley Grove does Ready Steady Cook!

Brinkley Grove Primary School, Colchester, chose to hold a Ready, Steady, Cook day as a whole school celebration of receiving their National Healthy School Status this term.  Children and their parents were invited to a morning with 2 local chefs preparing a main meal and a dessert with the assistance of the head and deputy.  Children had made lots of red tomato and green peppers to vote for their favourite.  The other hall was decked out with examples of work from PSHE, Emotional Health and Well-being, samples of healthy snacks and drinks and simple physical activities for people to try

The event was a great success and enjoyed by all. Many congratulations to Sarah Donnelly, the healthy school coordinator and deputy head teacher and all at Brinkley Grove on their National Healthy School Status.

Million Meals Campaign

A major national campaign the School Food Trust was launched on 16th October. As you are aware major changes have taken place in the provision of school food, particularly since the introduction of new food-based standards across all schools in England.  Local Authorities, caterers and schools have been working extremely hard to make these standards a reality but the School Food Trust recognises that in doing this take-up of school meals has fallen in some areas and more support is needed to encourage pupils to eat school lunch and to thereby ensure the viability of the school meal service.

To address this situation the Trust is launching the Million Meals campaign with the aim to improve the health and well being of children by encouraging a million more children to eat school meals by 2010

The campaign is aimed at headteachers and leadership teams at schools and provides those who sign up with practical advice on what they can do to increase the number of children eating school lunch.

Games Change - Playing Doesn't!

Reports of the death of children's outdoor play are greatly exaggerated, says Steve Roud, who is undertaking a national survey of children's games to update Peter and Iona Opie's 1959 classic work.  To find out which games have survived and which has vanished he is asking people to complete an online questionnaire. Roud's preliminary findings show that play is ending earlier than before.
